Fall Maple Brown Butter Blondies

  • Author: Karina
  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yield: 16 servings 1x

Description

Rich, chewy blondies made with nutty brown butter, real maple syrup, and crunchy toasted walnuts. This easy one-bowl dessert is the perfect cozy fall treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (2 sticks / 226g) unsalted butter
  • 1 ½ cups (300g) dark brown sugar
  • ¼ cup (60ml) 100% pure maple syrup
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 ½ cups (190g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup (115g) walnuts, chopped and toasted
  • Flaky sea salt, for topping (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×9 inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang on the long sides, and lightly spray with cooking spray.
  2. Melt the unsalted butter in a small saucepan over medium heat. Stir constantly until the butter foams, settles, and turns a golden amber color with a nutty aroma. Immediately pour the hot butter into a large mixing bowl.
  3. While the butter is still hot, add the brown sugar and maple syrup to the bowl. Whisk vigorously for about a minute until the mixture is smooth and glossy. Let it cool for 5 minutes.
  4. Add the eggs and vanilla extract to the cooled butter mixture. Whisk until combined.
  5. Add the flour, baking powder, and salt to the wet ingredients. Fold in gently with a spatula until just combined; do not overmix.
  6. Fold in the chopped toasted walnuts. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.
  7. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and set, and the center is slightly jiggly. A toothpick inserted should come out with moist crumbs.
  8. Let the blondies cool in the pan for at least 15 minutes. Sprinkle with flaky sea salt if desired. Lift out using the parchment paper and slice into squares.

Notes

Toast walnuts at 350°F for 5-7 minutes before chopping for best flavor. Do not overbake as blondies continue to cook in the hot pan. These taste best the next day as flavors meld. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 4 days.
