Description
A creamy, dairy-free chocolate mousse made with ripe avocados, cocoa powder, and maple syrup. This healthy, gluten-free dessert comes together in just five minutes and tastes rich and indulgent without any dairy crash.
Ingredients
- 2 medium ripe avocados (about 400g flesh)
- 1/2 cup (50g) unsweetened cocoa powder (Dutch-processed preferred)
- 1/4 cup (60ml) pure maple syrup
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2–3 tablespoons (30-45ml) unsweetened almond milk
- 1/2 teaspoon flaky sea salt
- Optional: 1/2 teaspoon instant espresso powder
- Optional: 2 tablespoons dark chocolate chips
- Optional: Fresh berries for serving
Instructions
- Cut avocados in half, remove pits, and scoop flesh into a bowl. Discard any brown spots.
- Add avocado flesh, cocoa powder, maple syrup, vanilla extract, and almond milk to a high-speed blender.
- Pulse briefly to break up ingredients, then blend on high speed for 1-2 minutes, stopping to scrape down sides, until completely smooth and creamy with no green chunks.
- Taste the mixture and adjust sweetness or salt as needed.
- Transfer mousse to serving bowls or a container, cover, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes (up to 2 hours) to chill and firm up.
- Garnish with flaky sea salt, fresh berries, or cocoa powder before serving.
Notes
Ensure avocados are very ripe for a smooth texture. If avocados are not ripe, place them in a paper bag with a banana for a few hours. The mousse can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days or frozen for up to 2 months. For a thicker consistency, reduce the almond milk or chill longer.
