Tailgate Slow Cooker Pulled Pork Sliders

  • Author: Karina
  • Total Time: 8 hours 20 minutes
  • Yield: 24 servings 1x

Description

Tender, juicy pulled pork sliders made in a slow cooker with a smoky dry rub and tangy BBQ sauce. Perfect for feeding a crowd at tailgates or parties with minimal effort.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 pounds pork shoulder (Boston butt), boneless
  • 1 large yellow onion, sliced into half-moons
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon smoked paprika
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1.5 cups BBQ sauce
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 12 tablespoons hot sauce (optional)
  • 2430 Hawaiian rolls or slider buns
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted

Instructions

  1. Pat the pork shoulder dry with paper towels and trim any large chunks of hard fat. Place in the slow cooker.
  2. In a small bowl, mix smoked paprika, brown sugar, chili powder, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper to create a dry rub.
  3. Sprinkle the dry rub evenly over the pork, rubbing it in to coat all sides.
  4. Slice the yellow onion and scatter it over and around the pork. Add the minced garlic on top.
  5. Cover the slow cooker and cook on LOW for 8 hours (or HIGH for 4-5 hours if short on time) until the pork is fork-tender.
  6. Remove the pork from the slow cooker and shred it using two forks. Discard any large pieces of fat or bone.
  7. In a small bowl, mix BBQ sauce, apple cider vinegar, and hot sauce. Pour half of the sauce over the shredded pork and toss to combine.
  8. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Slice Hawaiian rolls in half horizontally.
  9. Place the bottom half of the rolls in a 9×13 inch baking dish. Spoon the sauced pork evenly over the rolls.
  10. Top with the top half of the rolls and brush the tops with melted butter.
  11. Bake for 15 minutes until rolls are golden brown. Let cool for 5 minutes before slicing into individual sliders.

Notes

For best texture, cook on LOW for 8 hours. Save the juices from the slow cooker and mix them into the BBQ sauce for extra flavor. Toasting the rolls prevents them from getting soggy. You can make the shredded pork up to 2 days ahead and store in the fridge.
