Moist Banana Bread with Chocolate Chips

  • Author: Karina
  • Total Time: 1 hour 15 minutes
  • Yield: 10 servings 1x

Description

A reliable, incredibly moist banana bread recipe featuring ripe bananas and melty chocolate chips. This simple weekend baking project requires only pantry staples and delivers a tender, flavorful loaf perfect for breakfast or gifting.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 medium ripe bananas (about 1 ½ cups mashed / 350g)
  • ½ cup unsalted butter (115g), melted
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar (150g)
  • ¼ cup light brown sugar (50g)
  • 2 large eggs (100g), room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (5ml)
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda (5g)
  • ½ teaspoon salt (3g)
  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour (190g)
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (170g)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5 inch loaf pan and line with parchment paper for easy removal.
  2. In a large bowl, mash the ripe bananas until mostly smooth, leaving a few small chunks for texture.
  3. Stir the melted butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar into the bananas until well combined and sugars are dissolved.
  4. Add the eggs and vanilla extract to the banana mixture and whisk until well combined.
  5. In a separate medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt to ensure even distribution.
  6. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients. Use a spatula to fold them together just until the flour disappears. Do not overmix.
  7. Gently fold in the chocolate chips and spread the batter evenly into the prepared loaf pan.
  8. Bake for 55-65 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs. If the top browns too quickly, cover loosely with foil after 30 minutes.
  9. Let the bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.

Notes

Use the ripest bananas possible for maximum sweetness and moisture. Do not overmix the batter to avoid a tough texture. For best results, cool completely before slicing to prevent gumminess. Can be stored at room temperature for 3 days or frozen for up to 3 months.
