Iced Brown Sugar Oat Milk Shaken Espresso

  • Author: Karina

  • Yield: 1 serving 1x

Description

A quick, vegan-friendly homemade version of the popular cafe drink that combines bold espresso, dissolved brown sugar syrup, and frothy oat milk shaken with ice for a creamy, caramel-flavored treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 tablespoons finely ground espresso beans or strong coffee (14g)
  • 1 tablespoon dark brown sugar (15g)
  • 2 tablespoons hot water
  • 3/4 cup oat milk (180ml)
  • 1 cup ice cubes
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)

Instructions

  1. Brew espresso or strong coffee using an espresso machine, French press, or instant espresso powder. Ensure it is hot and strong.
  2. In a small jar with a tight lid, combine the brown sugar and 2 tablespoons of hot water. Close the lid tightly and shake vigorously for 10 seconds until the sugar is completely dissolved into a syrup.
  3. Add the oat milk and a handful of ice cubes to the jar with the sugar syrup. Do not fill the jar completely; leave room for shaking.
  4. Hold the jar with both hands and shake hard for 15-20 seconds to aerate the mixture and create a thick foam.
  5. Fill a mug or tall glass with fresh ice cubes.
  6. Pour the shaken espresso mixture over the ice.
  7. Serve immediately, optionally topping with a dusting of cinnamon or stirring to combine the layers.

Notes

Use hot water to dissolve the brown sugar to avoid grittiness. Shake vigorously for at least 15-20 seconds to create proper foam. Cold oat milk froths better. For a lighter version, reduce sugar to 1/2 tablespoon and use unsweetened almond milk. Do not store the mixed drink as it will lose its foam and become watery.
