Description
A vibrant, spooky, and easy-to-make cocktail featuring fresh blood orange juice, tequila, and a dramatic black salt rim. Perfect for Halloween parties or any festive gathering.
Ingredients
- 4 large blood oranges (juiced, yields approx. 1.5 cups)
- 2 cups (480ml) 100% agave blanco tequila
- ½ cup (120ml) fresh lime juice
- ½ cup (120ml) orange liqueur (Cointreau, Triple Sec, or Grand Marnier)
- ¼ cup black salt (Kala Namak)
- Ice (cubed or crushed)
- Optional garnish: Blood orange wheels, lime wedges, or rosemary sprigs
Instructions
- Pour the black salt onto a small plate. Cut a lime into wedges.
- Run a lime wedge around the rim of your glasses to moisten it, then dip the rim into the black salt to coat. Set glasses aside.
- Juice the blood oranges to get 1.5 cups of fresh juice. Juice the limes to get ½ cup of fresh juice.
- In a large jar or cocktail shaker, combine the blood orange juice, lime juice, tequila, and orange liqueur.
- Add a handful of ice to the mixture.
- Secure the lid tightly and shake vigorously for 15-20 seconds until the container feels frosty.
- Strain the mixture into the prepared black-salted glasses over fresh ice.
- Garnish with a blood orange wheel or lime wedge and serve immediately.
Notes
For a batch version, mix the juices, tequila, and liqueur in a pitcher and store in the fridge for up to 2 days. Add ice and shake or stir just before serving. Rim glasses right before serving to prevent the salt from getting soggy. If blood oranges are unavailable, regular navel oranges work but lack the dramatic color and berry-like undertones. For a non-alcoholic version, swap tequila and liqueur for extra juice and soda water.
