Fall Salted Caramel Apple Cider with Cinnamon Sugar Rim

  • Author: Karina
  • Total Time: 10 minutes
  • Yield: 8 servings 1x

Description

A cozy, 10-minute warm drink featuring tart apple cider, rich salted caramel sauce, and warm spices, served in a mug with a sweet cinnamon sugar rim.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 64 ounces (1.9 liters) 100% unsweetened apple cider
  • 1/2 cup (120ml) salted caramel sauce
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon (for the drink)
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves (optional)
  • 1/4 cup (50g) granulated sugar (for rim)
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon (for rim)
  • 1 tablespoon butter or margarine, melted (for rim)
  • Extra cold apple cider (for dipping rim)
  • Whipped cream (optional topping)
  • Extra caramel sauce (optional drizzle)
  • Apple chips (optional garnish)

Instructions

  1. Mix granulated sugar and 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon on a small plate; set aside.
  2. Melt 1 tablespoon butter in a small microwave-safe bowl in 15-second intervals until liquid but not hot.
  3. Dip the rim of a wide-mouth mug into cold apple cider, then into melted butter, and finally into the cinnamon sugar mixture. Press gently to coat and set aside.
  4. Pour apple cider into a saucepan. Add 2 teaspoons cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves.
  5. Heat over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until hot and steaming (5-7 minutes). Do not boil.
  6. Remove saucepan from heat. Stir in salted caramel sauce until fully dissolved.
  7. Pour hot cider into prepared mugs.
  8. Top with whipped cream, drizzle with extra caramel, and garnish with apple chips or a cinnamon stick if desired.
  9. Serve immediately.

Notes

Do not boil the cider as it can make the flavor flat. Use real apple cider, not juice, for better tartness. If making for a crowd, keep the cider warm in a slow cooker on the ‘warm’ setting. The recipe is naturally gluten-free and dairy-free, but check caramel sauce labels for wheat thickeners if needed.
