Description
These extra-crispy air fryer chicken wings are coated in a sticky, sweet, and savory honey garlic glaze. Ready in just 20 minutes, this recipe offers restaurant-quality texture without the grease or mess of deep frying.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 pounds chicken wings (party cut style: drumettes and flats)
- 1 tablespoon baking powder (aluminum-free)
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 4–5 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 cup honey
- 3 tablespoons soy sauce (low-sodium)
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 teaspoon sriracha or chili flakes (optional)
- 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
- 2 stalks green onions, sliced (for garnish)
- 1 tablespoon sesame seeds (for garnish)
Instructions
- Pat the chicken wings thoroughly dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture.
- Place dried wings in a large bowl and toss with baking powder, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper until evenly coated.
- Preheat air fryer to 380°F (190°C).
- Arrange wings in a single layer in the air fryer basket, ensuring they are not overcrowded. Cook in batches if necessary.
- Air fry for 15-18 minutes, flipping halfway through (around the 8-minute mark), until skin is golden brown and crispy and internal temperature reaches 165°F.
- While wings cook, melt butter in a small saucepan over medium heat.
- Add minced garlic and grated ginger; sauté for 1 minute until fragrant.
- Stir in honey, soy sauce, rice vinegar, and sriracha. Simmer for 2-3 minutes until the glaze thickens slightly and becomes glossy.
- Transfer cooked wings to a large clean bowl.
- Pour about two-thirds of the glaze over the hot wings and toss quickly to coat.
- Garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds. Serve immediately with remaining glaze on the side if desired.
Notes
Ensure wings are completely dry before seasoning to maximize crispiness. Do not use baking soda as it will make the wings taste soapy. For best results, do not overcrowd the air fryer basket. Leftovers can be reheated in the air fryer at 375°F for 3-4 minutes to restore crispiness.
