Description
These extra-crispy air fryer Brussels sprouts are caramelized, crunchy, and delicious. A fast, reliable side dish that transforms a vegetable many dislike into a family favorite using simple pantry staples.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1.5 pounds Brussels sprouts
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 0.5 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 tablespoons balsamic glaze (optional)
- 0.25 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
Instructions
- Trim the bottom stem off each sprout and peel off any loose or yellow outer leaves. Cut each sprout in half lengthwise.
- Rinse the halved sprouts under cold water, then pat them completely dry with paper towels to ensure crispiness.
- Place the dried sprouts in a large bowl. Drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Toss until every piece is coated.
- Preheat air fryer to 380°F (190°C) for 3 minutes if recommended by the manufacturer.
- Spread the sprouts in the air fryer basket in a single layer, ensuring they are not overcrowded.
- Cook for 10 minutes at 380°F (190°C). At the 5-minute mark, pull the basket out and shake vigorously to turn the sprouts.
- Check for doneness at 10 minutes; they should be tender inside with crispy, browned edges. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes if needed.
- If using balsamic glaze, drizzle over hot sprouts immediately after cooking and toss gently. If using Parmesan, add it in the last 2 minutes of cooking.
Notes
Drying the sprouts thoroughly is the most important step for achieving crispiness. Do not overcrowd the basket; cook in batches if necessary. For frozen sprouts, cook at 400°F for 12-15 minutes. Reheat leftovers in the air fryer at 350°F for 3-4 minutes to restore crispiness.
